NINGUN SER HUMANO ES ILLEGAL - LNo Human Being Is Illegal Remix 2014 / 67 SUEñOS, PESKADOR, BEATS 737, DESI MUNDO

Migrant youth have a brighter vision for the Bay Area and the Country. In 2011 the youth of 67 Sueños painted a 100 by 30 foot mural three blocks from San Francisco City Hall, a powerful statement in defense of migrant people. Inspired and led by migrant youth, it tells the stories of many people who migrate to this country and yet remain invisible in the immigration debate. It tells our struggles and our dreams by proclaiming "No Human Being is Illegal Y Cada Uno Tiene un Sueño". We made this public statement to show that we are not afraid and we are not alone.

This mural was the culminating project for the group of youth who founded 67 Sueños. Unfortunately, a development next door made the mural and the stories it portrayed Invisible once again. But we don't morn we organize, and so in 2014 we took on the project of painting a remix of the original mural a few blocks away. While smaller in scale, the core message remains the same. It also serves to represent the passing of the baton from one generation of 67 Sueños youth leadership to the next with the faces of the new leaders painted on the mural, just as their predecessors’ faces were on the old one.

This mural has an additional layer of meaning for the community, as it is being painted on the side of a new Latino-owned business in the Mission, a district where gentrification is forcing more and more Latino businesses to close their doors. This choice of location is meant to showcase the community’s resilience in the face of gentrification.
